Faith Lutheran Church
Text
Faith Lutheran Church at 499 Charles Avenue is a 1932 Gothic brick structure that is largely unchanged, except for the closing of its once-large basement-level windows. Otherwise the church retains many of its historic interior and exterior features, including its stained glass windows, woodwork and bell tower.
The congregation came to Frogtown in 1914. Look for the two cornerstones beside its front door.
Faith Lutheran has always been a large and active congregation. One charming photo from the 1950s shows the congregation gathered around as its new sign is dedicated. One of the church’s longstanding focuses is on food programs. It has been a host for the Loaves and Fishes meal program for several years and is also involved with the meal packaging Feed My Starving Children program. That is just part of a long tradition of community outreach.
The church built an education wing in 1952. it is one of the few churches in the neighborhood that built a gym that wasn’t intended for use by an affiliated school.
